Making a town proud
Middlesbrough Football Club
Problem: The existing crest was ill-suited to the modern era and, more importantly, failed to resonate with supporters. The club’s 150th anniversary, combined with a clear mandate from fans, created the opportunity for change. Solution: Shaped by extensive research and the voices of supporters, the Middlesbrough Football Club crest has been reimagined. The new design brings together treasured symbols from the club’s history with icons of the town, forging a clear vision for the future. It is a crest for every fan, young and old – a shared symbol of passion, identity, and unity. At its heart stands the Lion Rampant. A familiar presence in the club’s history and a proud emblem of the town’s heritage, the Lion – inspired by the Middlesbrough coat of arms – has been re-envisioned for a new generation. Bold and resolute, it represents pride, strength, and courage. To celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary, a special edition of the crest was created to honour this landmark moment. Finished in rich gold, it proudly bears the words ‘150 Years’ and is framed by metalwork inspired by the iconic gates of Ayresome Park.
